Hongsoft Free Video Converter

Hongsoft Free Video Converter is a multi-format video converter. It is a free tool that can convert pretty much any file to one of the supported formats.

This converter supports conversion to AVI, MP4, H.264, MOV, WMV, AVI, DIVX, XVID, MPG, and MKV, among others. This is a very basic video converter, so don't expect super performance or lots of extra features, like a video editor, profile editor, or anything like that.

If you look at the design, you can tell that this is not a commercial converter. It has an interface that contains graphics that are a bit pixelated and look very precarious. However, if you are anything like me, you won't care about these problems, if the application works right for what you need it.

In my testing, I used two files, an MKV file and an FLV file. The MKV file failed to convert. I got an error saying that the profile was not correct. The FLV file converted just fine. I used one of the Xbox 360 profiles for conversion, and this profile enlarged the image to 1280x720. I didn't see any option to keep the resolution of the original file, although I could choose one of the available resolutions manually from a drop-down menu.
